TALK of a ‘punch on’ during lunchtime at school usually sends teachers into a spin.
But at Ballam Park Primary School they couldn’t be happier when Grade 5 and 6 students put their hands up to join the new boxing club.
Teacher Bodeane Bruce said the non contact boxing sessions would improve wellbeing for students and ultimately concentration in the classroom. Ms Bruce said teachers were confident the boxing sessions would also lead to improved academic performance.
A student, Phoebe, said she was looking forward to the exercise.
Frankston Rotary Club president Charles Coy said his group was rapt to put $500 towards equipment for the boxing club. “One of the key drivers for us is youth education and their personal development and building confidence,” he said. “It also helps the kids let off steam. “Rotary believes it should change lives for the better. “We want them to enjoy an opportunity they may not have had before.” For details, visit rotaryfrankston.org.au
